Did you order any Girl Scout cookies this year? I didn't. I should feel guilty because I was in both Brownies and Girl Scouts as a kid. In the past few years I didn't even eat the cookies I bought. I don't think they are as good as when I was little. Maybe my tastes are more sophisticated. I'm guessing not, though, since I still eat mac & cheese and banana & peanut butter sandwiches. It seems I did a lot in Girl Scouts. You can see badges for one of our many camping trips, as well as reading and sewing, in the photo. There are lots more badges on the rest of the sash, which indicate we cooked (indoors and outdoors), skated, hiked, learned about first aid, made fire, went on a treasure hunt and learned about the environment.
My mom was in charge of ordering and distributing the cookies to the girls in Troop 415. I remember what seemed to be an inordinate amount of cardboard boxes in our garage. What a nice thing for a mom to do!
There were 3 years I sold over 100 boxes. I have the badges on my sash to prove it. I didn't use that part of the sash in the photo. It was too depressing since the cookie badges have the year embroidered on them.
When I sold cookies, it wasn't insulated like today where relatives just bring the order form to work and pass it around. My sales were made sitting outside the supermarket or the "old fashioned" way: door-to-door. I'd also say I walked to school in the snow, uphill both ways, but it doesn't snow in south Florida. And there are no hills. :-)
