brain freeze

Did you watch the finale of Heroes? I was so excited about it, and that worried me. When something gets hyped too much, or your expectations are high, it's easy to be disappointed. I was annoyed that they didn't make it a 2-hour episode (like 24 was). With all that said, I thought the finale was good.

There are still so many unanswered questions. I really, really (yes, 2 "really"s) hope that both Nathan and Peter live on. Their entire family seems too important not to. I like that Nathan is a complex character who struggles with doing the right thing. And for now Peter's the only one who's a match for Sylar (did he die or not?). Other significant unknowns are what role Nathan and Peter's mom plays in the global scheme and what her power(s) is(are). I want DL and Matt to live, too. There aren't any characters I don't like so I don't want to lose any. I already can't wait for the new season. :-)

I invited some people over to have food and watch the finale together. In the invitation I sent out, I announced I would make Ted's Nuclear Nachos. But, with all the characters on Heroes to work with, I couldn't come up with any other clever food items to serve. I wanted to make brownie sundaes and my friend said, "You could call them Sylar sundaes."

For those of you who don't watch Heroes (if you're still reading this), Sylar is the main bad guy. He targets the heroes on the show, murders them and then uses their brains (or eats them--we don't really know yet) to obtain their super ability for himself. Fortunately, it's not all that graphic. Sylar uses telekinetic powers to cut open a victim's skull without even touching him or her. You don't see much of it except for a trickle of blood.

My friend and I brainstormed (ha!) about how we could make "Sylar sundaes" look like a victim from the show. I came up with making cream puffs, splitting them open, and filling them with ice cream. I covered the top with chocolate ganache and sprinkles for hair, and used red gel icing to make the tell-tale trail of blood. The eyes are beads from candy necklaces.

We were all laughing at how funny they looked lined up in the freezer. And when we ate them it became even funnier because, as one of my guests noted, "they looked more and more like Sylar's victims." They tasted much better, though, I presume.
