In a belated Father's Day tribute, here are a picture and a video. The picture is of me, at approximately 1, with Dad. He liked to do things like have me wear his boots or glasses. I didn't seem to mind. I am lucky to have been around Dad's great sense of humor my entire life. I certainly adopted much of it, albeit unintentionally. But making people laugh is fun and I'm sometimes good at it. It's scary, though, when he and I make the exact same kinds of jokes!
Dad's sense of humor also descended to my brother, who is terrific with his own son. Recently, when Andrew started crying over being denied something, my brother "lectured" him via Elmo. While hugging Andrew, Brad used Elmo and a funny voice to explain: "Listen. In life you don't always get what you want. Like Daddy, who has to live in this terrible, tiny house." (Many of you know that it's an ongoing joke with Brad that he thinks his house is too small, but he laughs at himself about it, to his credit.)
Andrew is enamored with both his parents, but right now seems to look for "Da Da" more often. He likes his Auntie Nay, too, but in this video his interest didn't last long. He wanted to read a giant book that you make into a circle, so I set it up. By the time I started taping him moments later, he wanted to go see his father. He intently says, "See Da Da? I see Da Da." After he exits the book-pen by kicking through it, notice how he turns around to "close" it back up.
Notice, too, that he's holding a balloon. It was one in a giant bouquet from Auntie "Teh." He knew who sent the balloons when you asked him. He's not even 2 and this kid has scores of adoring fans. (To see larger, click the "Google Video" link.)
