My first semester at Adcenter is done. Whew. In January, we'll start our 2nd semester in a brand new building. Our school will be renamed the "Brandcenter." (I know. That sucks.)
Reflecting on what this has meant so far, I've come up with the following:
1. I am still as unsure of myself as ever. But that isn't surprising to me, and I have constant reminders and comments from people about the fact that I'm brave for doing this. Being the self-doubter who can't take compliments that I am, I figure they don't know what they're talking about. Realistically, though, could all these smart folks be wrong?
2. I don't know what I have accomplished. I've had some successes here, which I'm trying to focus on. It's tough to keep the multitude of failures from overshadowing. One really important thing was that my group for Business of Advertising won a semester-long competition. Every presentation we had all semester, preplanned or given to us on the spot, was graded by our peers. Their scores placed us at the top of the heap. I was really excited, as were my teammates. I feel lucky to have worked with such fun, talented and ingenuous partners.
3. I'm seriously grateful for the friends I have made here. In particular, Mandy (see left) and Tamice (pictured above) have been there for me and taught me much, even though they're far younger than I. They're both wise beyond their years. They're both smart with great senses of humor. I'm lucky.
4. As this program goes on, I'll get to know some of the other people here even better. There are some I can tell will be close friends, too. Others I may just get to work with and learn from. There is no shortage of interesting students.
5. I miss the food in RI. And I miss my house. Being home at Thanksgiving, I realized how I miss my friends and family there, too.
6. At the end of the semester, I got to work on a few things I'm proud of. First of all, we did a few commercials for Krispy Kreme. They were well received by the professors and students. Watch here:
first commercial
second commercial
longer "mockumentary"
7. I'll save the other thing I'm proud of for the next post. Now that I have a break, I'll post here more often. Promise.
