worth repeating

My friend's daughter, Lydia, is four and just beautiful. I met with both of them after Lydia's dance class, and she was nice enough to show me some of her dance moves. She also remembered my name right away, and consistently called me by it.

We walked around in Kohl's, and
Lydia kept wanting me to "find" her after she hid in the store. She talked to me often and asked her mom lots of questions about me. "Mama, can I hold Natalie's hand?" "Mama, is Natalie coming to our house?" "Is Natalie going to babysit for us?" It feels great when a child responds to you and likes you. Lydia is lots of fun.

When we got in the car,
Lydia informed me, from her car seat, that the song "Little Runaway" by Bon Jovi was playing. She sang along to the chorus. As soon as the song was over, it started again. Lydia's mom explained that she and her husband have successfully saved themselves from listening to the "Wiggles" and other children's music. The price, though, is that when Lydia likes a song she wants to listen to it over and over. For now, it's "Runaway" (Lydia adds the "Little" to the title). It can drive Lydia's mother crazy sometimes, even though it's the mom's CD and she likes the song.

Who knew that a four-year old and I would have things in common?

ps--It's a rhetorical question, meant to punctuate the end of this post, so no need for snide remarks it in the comments section :-)
